The organiers Verschneider

Of origin of (the Moselle), this family of Lorraine organiers built instruments in all is France end of the 18th century and during all the 19th century. They made many instruments in the Haut-Rhin, especially after the death of Joseph Callinet.

The Verschneider dynasty counts in particular:

  • Michel Verschneider (1729   -   1797)
  • Jean Frederic Verschneider (1771   -   1844)
  • Jean Frederic II Verschneider (1810   -   1884)

The quality of their dressers in oak carved is close to the organ cases of the 18th century. Their sound pallets are perfectly well adapted to the liturgical repertory of second half of the 19th century. These Orgue S is appreciated Organiste S thanks to their sonorities, with the various possible combinations and the possibility of playing a broad repertory.

One listed seven instruments coming from the Verschneider workshops in the Territoire of Belfort:

one with the church Saint-Georges (11e  -   16th century) of Essey-the-Nancy in Meurthe-et-Moselle (1851) like with the Church Saint-Lambert of Guenviller in the Moselle.

Note on the organ of Phaffans (Territory-of-Belfort)

  • In 1705, in the old church, there existed already an organ since the files reveal us that a sum of forty-nine books baloises had been allocated for its repair.

  • In 1745, this instrument always existed in the new rebuilt church.
  • In 1845, the priest of the time then decides to buy the organ of the old church of Masevaux, but following a disagreement between this last and the fabric committee (which will finish in front of the courts with Colmar), they will be resold with the parish of Grandvillars (Territory-of-Belfort) the same year.
  • In 1858, its successor buys for 5  000 francs of the organ new to the Verschneider brothers. The inauguration of the instrument takes place the October 5th 1858.
  • In 1934 the organ undergo a first restoration, then another of 1966 with 1974, with an enlarging. Today the organ includes/understands 24 plays.

The carved wood dresser (1858) is classified with the historic buildings since 1977. It forms a beautiful unit made up of a large organ with three turrets, dominating positive of back. The instrument comprises two keyboard S and a pedals. Organ = of the instrument: all occurs to the back, inside the dresser which conceals approximately 1  500 pipes of all sizes, out of metal or wood. Indeed, the organ is primarily made of a grouping of sound pipes which speak under the pressure blast produced by imposing bellows. It is thus a true orchestra which the organist holds at his disposal with different play X comparable with musical instruments: bumblebee S, flute S, oboe, bassoon S, cymbal S, trumpet S, bugle S, etc -->
