Verneuil-sur-Seine is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 15 km in the North-West of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer. The name of Verneuil derives from “Verne”, another name of the Aulne, Gallic origin.

Its inhabitants is called Vernoliens.

Geography

The commune of Verneuil-sur-Seine is in the north of Yvelines in edge of the Seine, in the convexity of a meander, on left bank of the Fleuve. The territory is in the alluvial plain of the Seine, between 60 and 20 meters of altitude, light inclined of the south towards north in direction of the Seine. A small valley in its center, directed south-north, was dug by the Ru of Bazincourt (which disappears in north in the residential area).

The commune is bordering on the Mureaux in the west, of Chapet in south-west, Vernouillet in south-east. In the North-East, it is separated by the Seine from the Be worth-on-Seine and Triel-sur-Seine.

Occupation of the grounds

The occupation of the grounds is characterized by a strong urbanization, concentrated in the center-south of the territory. Built space accounts for 33% of the territory, that is to say 314 hectares (in 1999). The rural areas, 55% of the territory are divided, in appreciably equal parts between cultures, forest (especially in the west of the commune, with the regional forest of Verneuil-sur-Seine in the south of the RD 154 and it wood of the Half-moon in north) and water levels along the Seine (ponds of Rouillard, the Gross-Pierre and Gallardon). They are artificial water levels resulting from the exploitation last from sand pits and gravel pits.

The habitat extended along the RD 154 in continuity with the city close to Vernouillet, forming a continuous agglomeration. It is made up mainly of recent individual dwellings (39,5% of urban space, either 170 hectares) and of a great number of residences in apartment buildings occupying 5% of this space or 20 hectares. The zones of activities, approximately 14 hectares are mainly at the north of the railways.

Transportation routes

The road communications are assured mainly by the secondary road n° 154 which connects Orgeval to the Mureaux, crossing the commune in the south-eastern direction - the North-West.

The commune is crossed south-east in the North-West by the line Paris-Rouen it Havre and is served by two passanger stations of suburbs: the Station of Vernouillet - Verneuil, in the east of the commune close to the old borough, and in the west, that, more recent, of the Clearings of Verneuil. Important beams of ways located at the north of the main roads, between those and the ponds, testify to an old activity of sorting. They are used today as temporary sidings. Ways of junction serve industrial facilities in the north of the line.

In the west of the commune is part of the tracks of the Aérodrome of Mureaux.
