Verneuil-in-Halatte

Geography

Verneuil-in-Halatte, currently populated of 4.128 inhabitants, is blottie in edge of the Forêt of Halatte on left bank of the Oise, downstream and in the North-East of Creil, and connected to Bridge-Holy-Maxence (more in the East) by the secondary Road D120.

History

The site was occupied since the Gallic and Roman time, as remainders of Roman villas attest it.

It was then a Seigneurie, pertaining to the Count of Saint-pol., which obtained it Philippe-Auguste.

The palate was ordered by the lord of Verneuil, Philippe IV of Boulainvilliers in the middle of the 16th century. For lack of money, this one of being solved has to sell the building site has Jacques of Savoy which mourrut without completing the building site. His wife (Anne d' Este) sold the castle to Henri IV who offered it has his mistress, Catherine de Balzac d' Entragues. In 1705, the princes of Condé acheterent the castle which they made demolish in 1734 because it " made ombre" with the castle of Chantilly. There remains today only the basement of the castle which is not that half has excavated. These excavations COULD begin again between 2008 and 2009. The Friends of the Verneuil Old man also played a part in this safeguard.
