Vermandovillers is a common French, located in the department of the Somme and the area Picardy.

Geography

History

A first attack occurred on September 24th, 1914, it was partly stopped by 75° R.I with Spangled Wood at the entry of Herleville. The face was stabilized during two years until September 4th, 1916.

This attack of September 4th, 1916 of Vermandovillers at the beginning of Spangled Wood, was entrusted to the 132° Division (35°C.A - 10° Armée) towards a fulcrum, abundantly equipped with shelters concreted for machine-guns, organized by Allemends, since nearly 2 years, (N° Report/ratio: 6288/3 of September 26th, 1916 of the E.M of the 132° Division). September 6th, 1916, of many divisions (13° - 43 ° - 51°) 120° R.I take part in the battle known as " of Vermandovillers". It ended on September 9th, 1916 for lack of combatants. The 158°R.I, the 366°R.I and the 1st Battalion of Hunters will have an exemplary control and will undergo heavy losses.

For memory between the September 4th and 9th 1916, the 86° Brigade will lose: 1071 men, the 264° Brigade: 1513 and the 108°: 1580. These figures expliquentle makes that in a radius of 5 km around Vermandovillers, they put back in the cemeteries 1261 French and 22665 Germans. The British are not entered because although killed on this ground, they rest in major part with Villers-Bretonneux (80).
