Vergeletto

Vergeletto is a commune Suisse canton of the Tessin.

History

To the Middle Ages, Vergeletto belonged to the vicinanza of Onsernone and with the of Russo will squadra. Since 1803, it included/understood also the current commune of Gresso, which was detached from it in 1882. With spiritual, the village raised initially the Russo one; it was then made up in autonomous parish in 1757.

Inheritance

Chiesa parrochiale Annunciazione di Maria Vergine : founded in 1610 by Pietro Terribilini it contains a statue of wood representing the Virgin and the Gabriel Archangel.

Put Garbani : elegant construction of the XVIIIéme century constuite by the Garbani family, located in the superior part of the village.

It mulino : mill of the XVIIIéme century located at the center of the village.

Tourism

One arrives today at Vergeletto by the road which forks with Cavigliano. The road curves through vertiginous throats and with far one can see houses posed like nests of swallow or eagle on the side of the slopes, stuck the ones above the others.

As raises it writer H.R. Haller one could believe himself, " some share in Nepal, or in Himalaya".

It nucleo : located at the entry of the valley bearing the same name, it is the starting point of splendid walks in altitude towards alpine refuges such as Salei, Arena and Ribia.

Cable car Zott-Salei : on the basis of Zott located at a few kilometers of the village and joining the mountain pasture of Salei.

---- The armorial bearings of the commune of Vergeletto are borrowed from the family Garbani or Garban for the immigrant branch in France and from the United States; originating in the village and whose certain members illustrated themselves as magistrates and Swiss statesmen. ----
