Biography of Vercors
Jean Bruller known as Vercors was born from the union of a father of Hungarian origin and a French mother. After studies of electrical engineer, he becomes cartoonist and illustrator in the line of Gus Bofa. One owes him in particular the album for children Patapoufs and Filifers , of André Maurois, and 21 receipts practical of violent death.Pacifist until 1938, it is mobilized during the Second world war. It enters then the Résistance, under the encouragement of Pierre de Lescure, and takes the pseudonym of Vercors which is the name of a massive mountainous and of a famous maquis. In 1941, it Co-founds, with Pierre de Lescure, the Éditions of Midnight, clandestine publisher and publishes its news there the Silence of the sea in 1943. He is the originator of the logo to star of the Editions of Midnight. He also creates the national committee of writers (CNE) and also takes part in the Mouvement of peace.
In the Silence of the sea , Vercors does not dedicate its book to large resisting or a figure of freedom but to " Saint-Pol.-Russet-red . Poet assassinated ". Saint-Pol.-russet-red is an old man who dies of sorrow in 1940 when its manor containing all its new texts is burnt, shortly after that these same Germans raped his daughter and killed his maidservant. Just like the Silence of the sea wants to evoke a dumb resistance at the edge of the cries, this man who dies broken, almost futilely is the symbol even of the quiet fight of Vercors.
It is also known for a science fiction novel, the denatured Animals , from which the part Zoo or the Assassin philanthropist was drawn. He dies in bets in 1991.
