Verchères

Verchères is a municipality of the Quebec, located in the regional Municipalité of county of Lajemmerais, in the administrative area of the Montérégie.

With a population slightly higher than: 5000 inhabitants, it is not the economic activity which makes EC small town a place out of the commun run. But it is there that Madeleine de Verchères just pushed back an attack iroquoise on banks of the St-Laurent, while sheltering with some villagers in a fort provided with loopholes, which is besides still upright nowadays. It is possible to go to see it and to visit an authentic communal mill which is just with dimensions, or are held exposures of painting during the summer.

Accessibility

Verchères is accessible by the Autoroute 30 and the Autoroute 132 and via public transport by the way number 700 from the CIT Sorel-Varennes starting from the Terminus of Longueuil
