Vera DUA

Vera DUA , born the October 25th 1952 with Ghent, is a political woman Belgian, member of the party ecologist Groen! and appointed with the Flemish Parliament. She was Minister Flemish for the Environment and Agriculture.

Studies and professional path

After a doctorate in Agronomy, Vera DUA became during the years 1980 scientific collaborator with the Université of Ghent. She exerted then functions within Aminal ( Administratie voor medium, natuur-, Land in waterbeheer ), the old Flemish administration for the management of the environment, nature, the countryside and water.

Engagement and political career

Vera DUA engaged in the party ecologist Agalev in 1984. In 1989, it obtained a seat of communal adviser with Ghent, then was elected two years later with the Chambre of the representatives.

It became in 1995 appointed with the Flemish Parlement. She was opposed to the minister of environment for the time to it, Theo Kelchtermans (CD&V). She succeeded this last in 1999, obtaining the wallet of Agriculture in addition. She promoted there the extension of natural reserves and the limitation of the épendage of the liquid manure, meeting on this subject the opposition of the farmers. It is under its signature that the Flemish government founded the test of health for the newborns.

After the fall of Agalev to the federal elections of the May 18th 2003, it left the government and returned to sit at the Flemish Parliament.

A few months later, she was elected president of the new party Groen! which succeeds Agalev. She preserved this presidency until the month of November 2007, during which Mieke Vogels succeeded to him.
