Ventricular fibrillation

The ventricular fibrillation (FV) is a turbid cardiac rhythm corresponding to the fast, disorganized and ineffective contraction of the Ventricule S.

Medical emergency, it is a cause of cardiac arrest and Sudden death.

Electrocardiogram

ECG records a ventricular activity fast irregular. The complexes QRS are widened, anarchistic, taking an oscillatory aspect.

Causes

Cardiac causes

They are identical to those of the Extrasystole S and the ventricular tachycardias. In the forefront is the Myocardial infarction, ventricular fibrillation being a complication of the acute phase. One finds then the cardiac failures, a pulmonary Embolie massive, all state of shock.

Exceptional are the ventricular cases of fibrillation " primaire" on healthy heart inducing a unexpected Sudden death at a patient not presenting a Cardiopathie.

Noncardiac causes

Occurred of a ventricular fibrillation in the event of acute respiratory insufficiency is possible, of dyskaliemy (hypo- or Hyperkaliémie), of Hypothermie, electrification.

Treatment

A external electric shock must be carried out as soon as possible.

In the absence of defibrillator, the conventional operations of reanimation, associating external cardiac massage and assisted ventilation, will have to be quickly begun until the defibrillation can be undertaken.
