History

Montalivet was a locality of Vendays (Vendays becomes Vendays-Montalivet in 1950). A Seaside resort is created there in 1852. The Nom of Vendays would be a Contraction Mot S Gaulois: vindos , meaning White, and ialo , Clearing.

Montalivet was named in the honor of Jean-Pierre Bachasson, count de Montalivet (1766 - 1823), Pair of France and statesman, which was Minister of Interior Department under Napoleon i. Another interpretation (surely less probable) of the name is than it derives from " Assemble Oliveto" , a legend telling that a Navire charged with Olive oil would have been failed the broad one.

The site Préhistorique of the Norway pine proves the old character of the settlement of the commune. The way of Reyne recovers old a Roman Voie. The Fief belonged to Pierre de Bailly then passed to the hands of the Maison of Grailly.
