Vendangeuse
The vendangeuse ( Sternbergia lutea (L.) Ker Gawl. ex Spreng. ) of the family of the Amaryllidacée S. This plant is a bulbous hardy perennial, that Linné had originally named Amaryllis lutea , is often called wrongly “Crocus of autumn”, because it is not a question of a Crocus. In continental France, it is not wild, but is naturalized there in particular in South-west.
Culture
The bulb must be just buried in a hot place in full sun. The flower appears at the end of the summer, with or after the sheets. The sheets, which persist until the end it spring, can suffer from intense freezing in the east of the country. The bulb enters then in dormancy.
The Sternbergia reproduce very quickly in a vegetative way and it is good to duplicate the tufts rather regularly to obtain a beautiful flowering.
