Vendée Globe
The Vendée Globe is a test Sport ive which consists in making the round the world tour, with the veil, as a recluse, without stopover and assistance. This test falls under the line of mythical the Golden Globe Challenge created in 1968 which will know only one edition, then BOC Challenge created in 1982.
This race proceeds every 4 years, the departure takes place in November to the Sand-with Olonne in the Vendée (France).
It was created by Philippe Jeantot and the first edition took place in 1989: thirteen participants launched out on November 26th of this year for a race towards the adventure. Since, Vendée Globe grew to become one of the races to broad most famous in the world. From its difficulty, it is sometimes called the “Everest of the sea”.
One can note that this race (just like the Route of Rum) from the fact that it is held as a recluse over a very long time is contrary with the payment to prevent the boardings at sea, cf regulates 5: Any ship must permanently ensure a visual and auditive day before suitable, by also using all the means available which are adapted to the existing circumstances and conditions, so as to allow a full appreciation of the situation and risk of boarding. The course of the race is tolerated by the authorities.

The payment
Vendée Globe is a race as a recluse, without stopover and assistance, i.e. the Skipper S must only manage and cannot obtain any assistance (other but medical) of outside, some examples:- the routing is prohibited, the skippers cannot profit from the assistance of a person with ground which studies the weather to provide them the route to follow, they must manage with the bulletins weather provided by the local authorities and the organization of the race.
- medical help: at the time of the edition of 1992, Bertrand of Pitcher is recousu the language using a mirror and with the councils of the Doctor Chauve, doctor of the race.
- no assistance: at the time of Vendée Globe 2000, Yves Parlier carried out a repair of its boat while sheltering in a split, the photographers could approach it with a few meters but to in no case to go up on board boat, it had to manage to only join the ground and could not exceed the limit of the highest tides.
- in the event of shipwreck, a competitor can accommodate on its board a person in difficulty without being disqualified, at the time of the third edition, Pete Goss saved Raphaël Dinelli by accommodating it on its board and by depositing it in the first port.

For the anecdote: at the time of the increase of the Atlantic towards Sand-in Olonne, Nick Moloney notes that the skittle of its boat, weakened by the testing conditions of the Indian Ocean and the Southern Pacific, is with the rupture limit. It will not hold until the arrival. Death in the heart, it must give up, and is diverted towards Brazil, where it leaves its boat in repair. Several months pass, then it returns to seek its repaired boat, takes again the sea only on board, and joined Sand-in Olonne 1 year after in being party, thus buckling its round the world tour as a recluse. The race is finished for a long time when it is accommodated with the port of Sands with the homage of the maritime community, the homage due to marine truths, those which never give up. The legend of Vendée Globe is related to the fact that each sailor who returns from the round the world tour is a winner, winner on the elements, the adversity, itself.
