Veil handisport

The veil handisport is a Sport derived from the veil which is practiced by handicapped people.

Rules

The sail complies with the established rules by the International federation of veil. The adaptations of these rules for the handicapped people are fixed by the International foundation of veil for handicapped people, recognized since 1991 by the International federation of Veil.

Boats

The sailing ships of the type 2,4 Mr. are solitary quillards from the sailing ships of 12 m of the cut of América. They have a 4,1 meters length and weigh 260 kilograms.

The boats of the Sonar type are sailing ships in three places. Their length is of 7 meters and their weight of 950 kilograms. The Sonars have three veils.

Classification of the handicaps

The athletes are classified of categories according to their handicap.

Motor disabilities receive between 1 and 7 points. An athlete with 7 has the best functionalities.

The visually handicapped persons are classified in three categories:

  • the blind athletes are in the B1 category and have 3 points.
  • the athletes partially-sighted persons having a vision of 6/24 maximum are in the B2 category and have 7 points
  • the athletes partially-sighted persons having a vision ranging between 2/60 and 6/12 are in the B3 category and have also 7 points

To take part in a race as a recluse on quillard 2,4 Mr., the athlete must have 7 points or less.

A crew of Sonar can include/understand three athletes having very different handicaps, provided that the total of the points of classification of the crew does not exceed 14 points (one adds the points with the three navigators).

Competition

The International committee of veil for handicapped people was created in 1988. Famous International foundation of veil for handicapped in 1991, its role is to organize competitions and to promote the sail for handicapped people.

The first championship of the world for handicapped people was organized in 1991 in Suisse. The championship of the world of veil for the navigators having a Handicap takes place from now on each year, except the year of the paralympic Jeux.

The sail was a sport of demonstration to the paralympic Jeux of Atlanta in 1996 and became an official sport with the paralympic Jeux of Sydney in 2000. In the paralympic Plays, the navigators take part in one of the two tests of veil, as a recluse on one 2,4 Mr. or a crew on a sonar. A test out of Sonar or 2,4 Mr. is made up of a series of nine races. Each race makes it possible to acquire points (the first gains a point, the second two and so on until the last). The gaining boat is that which enters more the small number of points.
