Veil (clothing)

The veil is a clothing exclusively female, intended to cover whole or part of the body and sometimes the face. The veil is much related to an old cultural tradition than with the religious tradition and returns to the image which it is advisable to give of oneself and with the report/ratio with the body: the purpose of it is initially to mark the social differences, respectability, crowned. It is used besides as accessory on the Chapeau X and it is question of hat to veil .

History

In the Antiquity, the port of the veil was codified in Assyrie, making it possible to establish the distinction between noble or married women and slaves. Nowadays, in traditional” or monastic mediums the “, the Jewish ones and the Christian women also cover the head. The Christian women of Eastern rite cover the head to enter a church, and the Christian nuns also wear a veil as a cap (the expression “to take the veil” means to enter in religion for a woman). It exists there also a Christian veil called Mantille which is used in the Messe of Magpie V.

The veil is also met among Arab and Moslem women. Its use is however former to the Islam and practiced in other cultural and religious surfaces (for example the Touareg S).
