Vehicle Number Identification
The code WINE - Vehicle Identification Number - is a single alphanumeric code which is given to each automobile Véhicule since 1950.
It appears on the frame of the vehicle like on the engine and in the trip computer. Launched in a form simplified in 1950 by the American manufacturers, this code will pass to the 17 current characters in 1980.
Significance of the code
Example: JM 1 NA 351 2 L 0 100014- J Identification of the country of origin of the manufacturer: J = Japan

- 1 Type of vehicle: 1 = automobile, 2 = truck, 3 = MPV
- NR Identification of the model: NR = Miata (MX-5)
- has Identification of the generation of the model:
- has = first generation (1990 - 1997),
- B = second generation (1999 -…)
- 351 Type of roof:
- 351 = car produced with rigid roof and black flexible roof or Speedster edition 1997,
- 352 = car produced without rigid roof with black flexible roof,
- 353 = car produced with or without rigid roof with flexible roof tan
- 2 Number of validation only
- L Year of production of the vehicle:
- L = 1990, M = 1991, NR = 1992, P = 1993, R = 1994, S = 1995, T = 1996, V = 1997, X = 1999
- 0 Factory of production: 0 = Hiroshima, 1 = Hofu
- 100014 incremental Number whose first figure represents nevertheless the year of the vehicle: 1 = 1990 and 1999,2 = 1991,3 = 1992,4 = 1993,5 = 1994,6 = 1995,7 = 1996 and 1997
