Located in Hurepoix, old French province, Vauhallan extends its field of the Plateau of Saclay to the borders of the valley of the Bièvre.

Nested with the hollow of a small valley surrounded by wood, the village knew to preserve the nature which surrounds it and the richnesses of its past. On a monticule, in the center of the city, draws up the church renovated in XIIIe century which has a crypt built with the Life century. The primitive religious building was ordered by Childebert Ier, one of wire of Clovis, in memory of the miracle of which he was the witness. In the honor of the saints who operated the miracle, the sanctuary accepted the name of saint Rigomer and holy Ténestine. Being next to the church, one finds a cross of fleurdelized preaching going back to 1602 which is classified with the Historic buildings (1984). An independent association, A.R.E.V.A. works for the restoration of this church. While sauntering on the territory of Vauhallan, one discovers, with the turning of a street, old houses still having attic windows with hay, a hut with strawberries, a laundrette which evoke the rural life of formerly, as well as vestiges of the four great strongholds held formerly by lords. The farm of Arpentis (11th century), with orée of the Plate of Saclay, is one of the last florets (registered with the historic building in 1988). Dominating the plain of Palaiseau, a dovecote of XIIe contemplates the fields of corn, corn or colza. With far, it is possible to foresee the Polytechnic school and the Research center Danone. Placé on one of the ways leading to Holy Jacques de Compostelle, Vauhallan also shelters, on the hamlet of Silt, the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Louis of the Temple where the offices are still sung in Grégorien. Inaugurated in 1951, the abbey proposes in its store of the artisanal products coming from the convents Benedictines and is re-elected for his workshop of binding, in particular for the restoration of old bindings. The old castle of Silt, transformed into hotel trade, accommodates visitors and elderly. The abbey has two museums. One concerns the founder of the order: Louise-Adelaide of Bourbon-Cop, girl of Louis V Joseph de Bourbon-Cop, family member of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Memories of the king and the queen are gathered there. The other is dedicated to Mère Genevieve Welsh, a moniale which drew and constructed the stained glasses of the abbey church.
