Vaubadon

Vaubadon is a common French, located in the department of the Calvados and the area Basse-Normandie.

Geography

The commune is located on the axis Bayeux - Saint-Lo, with 12 kilometers from Bayeux and 20 of Saint-Lo, in the valley of the Drome. Vaubadon belongs to the country of the Bessin.

History

Bronze axes going back to -1800 were found on the site of the commune. The queen Frédégonde (547 - 597), wife of Chilpéric Ier, asked the Badon Lord to assassinate Gontran, king of Burgundy but it was taken and connected. The locality " Valley or vau Baddon" is thus attested since the time mérovingienne. In 1087, the lords of Valbadon and Quiry lined up under the banner of Guy, wire of the count de Bourgogne and Adèle of Normandy, aunt of Guillaume Bastard the to fight this last. The duke Guillaume of Normandy was victorious and the vassal ones were subjected. At the end of the 11th century, the lords of Valbadon accompanied the duke by Normandy, Robert Courteheuse with the First Crusade. In 1716 the name of Vaubadon replaces Valbadon (the valley dominated by the manor of Badon).

Places and monuments

  • the old Romance church, destroyed at the 18th century was replaced by the current church Sainte Anne. The first stone was posed on August 13rd, 1778. The priest, at the end of a procession, blesses the foundations in the presence of Mr. de Vaubadon, giver of the church. The architect is the sior Gouesmel and monseigneur de Cheylus blesses it on October 25th, 1781.
