Vats of the Seine
the vats of the Seine are a means of crossing the the Seine.
The vats are flat bottom boats and with before and back undifferentiated (Amphidrome S), making it possible vehicles to pass from a bank to another.
Until 1959, the Seine could be crossed between Rouen and the Manche only by borrowing a vat. The construction of the Pont of Tancarville then made it possible to facilitate this crossing. The vat of Hode become useless was then removed.
Thereafter, the construction of the Bridge of Brotonne - which involved the removal of the vats of Caudebec-in-Caux and the Mailleraye-on-Seine - then Pont of Normandy, succeeds in disenclosing Yvetot, the Pays of Caux and Le Havre by connecting them in particular to the highway A13.
Ensured a long time by the Port authority of Rouen, the exploitation of the 8 vats of the Seine was taken again by the Department of Seine-Maritime.
Since September 2005, the crossing of the Seine on the departmental vats is free.
June 16th, 2006 was baptized and launched, with the building site MIM of Dieppe the Vat 22, brought into service on November 8th, 2006 at the Face. It is since December in exploitation with the drainage duct of the Valley-of-the-Hague.
