Vat Phu
The temple Vat Phou ( pagoda-mountain ) overhangs a hill of the Pasak mounts close to the town of Champasak, in the extreme south of the Laos. It is a temple hindouist built by the Khmers who managed Laos during most of the Khmer Empire (10th at the 12th century).
This site was successively occupied by several temples as of the 5th century. Certain authors at that time locate at this place the capital of the kingdom of Chenla ( Tchen it of Ground ) rested by the king Shresthavarman .
After a second building at the 9th century, already associating a hydraulic sanctuary and works, the visible temple currently was built at the 12th century at the same time as a water reserve ( baray ) during the reign of Sūryavarman II whereas this one guerroyait with the Champâ and the Đai Viêt, more in the east.
There is a superb sight on the Mekong since the third level of the platform.
