Vassilis Alexakis

Vassilis Alexakis (in Greek: Βασίλης Αλεξάκης , born the December 25th 1943 with Athens, -) is a writer gréco - French, author of an important novel. He writes at the same time in French and Greek, his native tongue.

Its work, divided between two cultures, is impressed of a tender irony and makes us penetrate in the middle of the intimate and universal history. About the use of its two languages in its work, Vassilis Alexakis points out that “initially the French period ago. I wrote in French the first three novels, where the contact with the language is still relatively distant. It is easier to me to make French humor, blow they are lighter books. There is, then, a turn with Talgo , the first book written in Greek where I make the proof that my manner of writing remainder the same one while passing from one language to another, that I betrayed none of the two languages and that none betrays me. ”

Biography

At the 17 years age, Vassilis Alexakis receives a purse and unloads in France (with Lille), to study journalism. The purse being too thin, it must work with plunges in a restaurant. After its three years studies, it returns in Greece due to military service but returns to settle in Paris in 1968 after the military coup d'etat.

He will work with the Monde of the books during fifteen years. Cartoonist, Vassilis Alexakis was journalist with the newspaper Le Monde and also wrote radiophonic parts.

He received in 2007 the Grand Prix of the novel of the French Academy.
