ancestors of the current Basques
Vascons were not the only ancestors of the current Basques. The Western Basque provinces were the territory of:- Vardules or Bardyetes in Gipuzkoa and in the east of the Alava
- Drivers or Conisci in Biscay and in the west of the Alava
- Autrigons or Allotriges in the extreme west of Biscay and Alava.
the adjective
By generalization, one applies the adjective vascon to the supposed surface bascophone in antiquity and to the cultural features divided by these areas. The supposed area bascophone, because of its Onomastic Basque, corresponds to the two Pyrenean slopes between Ebre and the Garonne until the top Pallars.
