Vasco back Santos Gonçalves (born the May 3rd 1921 with Lisbon - died the June 11th 2005 in Algarve) was a Portuguese general who was Prime Minister of four of the six provisional governments, of July 18th, 1974 in July 1975.

Wire of a business man and former football player, Vasco Gançalves is close to the communist ideas whereas his/her father is a partisan of Salazar. During its military career, it is implied in the Coup d'etat of 1959 and it would have taken part in the Révolution of the Eyelets, in April 1974.

Near to the Portuguese Communist party (of which he never affirms not to have been member), he applies as a Prime Minister a policy of Nationalization S and a Land reform.

After the electoral victory of the Socialist party of Mário Soares in April 1975, Gonçalves is isolated government in August, dismissed army at the beginning of September. It does not form part of the new government of September 19th, 1975.

Thereafter, it appeared publicly during manifestations of the Portuguese Communist party. He dies of a syncope on June 11th, 2005.
