Vasco Pratolini

Vasco Pratolini (Prato, October 19th 1913 - Rome, June 12th 1991) is a writer, Journaliste and Italian Scénariste .

Biography

Vasco Pratolini was born in 1913 with Prato, with a score of kilometers of Florence. Self-educated, it exerted various trades - Typographe, barman, itinerant salesman - before coming into contact with the literary world thanks to Elio Vittorini. It starts to publish articles in the review Letteratura since 1937 then, the following year, it founds the review Campo di Marte with Alfonso Gatto.

During the war, it takes an active part in the Italian Résistance.

Its three most known books are undoubtedly Cronaca familiare (1947), Cronache di poveri amanti (1947) and Metello (1955), which obtains the Prix Viareggio.

Four of its Romance are seen carried with the screen, which will give four Film S famous of the Italian Néoréalisme: Cronache di poveri amanti ( Chronic of the poor lovers ), adapted in 1954 by Carlo Lizzani, with Marcello Mastroianni; Ragazze di San Frediano ( Young girls of San Frediano ), adapted in 1955 by Valerio Zurlini, of which it is the first feature-length film; Cronaca familiare , adapted in 1962 by Valerio Zurlini ( Diary ); and Metello , adapted in 1970 by Mauro Bolognini.

While continuing its career of novelist and journalist, Vasco Pratolini coécrit the scenario of three major films of the Italian Cinema: Païsa of Roberto Rossellini, which he writes with Federico Fellini; Rocco and his/her brothers of Luchino Visconti (special price of the jury of the Mostra in 1960); and finally the Battle of Naples of Nanni Loy (Oscar of the best original screenplay in 1963, price that Pratolini divides with Pasquale Festa Campanile).
