Varig
Varig (trade name Varig Brasil ) (Code AITA: RG ; Code ICAO: VRN ) is largest Airline company Brésil, and of Latin America member of alliance Star Alliance until the beginning of 2007, date on which it left there.
The May 7th 1927 with Porto Alegre was born the public limit company Empresa from Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense (the Rio Grande C Sul is a State of Brazil), acronym VARIG.
First plane Atlântico, 9 passengers 180 km/h - with the Boeing 777 one of the most modern planes of the world, 900 km/h.
The first line, of only 270 km, connected the towns of Porto Alegre - Pelotas - Rio Grande.
Today, with its subsidiary companies Riosul and Nordeste, it has 115 planes and carries out connections between 70 cities of Brazil but is nothing any more but number 3 on the domestic market. airlifts exist between the principal capitals of State, with flights every 15 minutes for Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Vitória.
With international it holds even more than 77% of the market. They is 20 cities in direct flights, p.ex. Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, London, Milane, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami and New York.
The fleet is currently made up of 75 apparatuses: Boeing 777, Boeing 767, Boeing 757, Boeing 737, MD-11 of which 15 are nailed on the ground, for lack of maintenance.
The Varig June 17th, 2005 was declared in bankruptcy proceedings. December 19th the creditors approve a recovery package. The rescue plan of the company includes the fall of the costs, the conversion of its debts into actions in funds of investment and the entry of new investors to replace the federal Brazilian one.
July 28th, 2006 is announced the dismissal of 5500 of the 9485 paid with the Brésil, following a recovery package decided following the repurchase during July of the company by a américano-Brazilian consortium
