In the middle of the 19th century, Varennes was known like a seaside resort. A hotel and various installations of holiday were found there. The gray Sœurs had there also an old people's home. A source of salt water emerged close to these installations. Starting from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the year 1970, a company Montréalaise, Gurd, bottled this salt water which it distributed under the name “Vée de Vée”, which points out initial town of Varennes.
