The explosion of vapor in medium not-confined (in English Unconfined Vapor Cloud Explosion - UVCE ), is a Explosion of Gaz to the free air.

Unfolding of a UVCE

  • Fuite or rejection of a product in liquid or gas form in the atmosphere,
    • If the product is in liquid form: evaporation of a more or less great part of the formed tablecloth,
  • Transport of the gas cloud (mixed with the Oxygène) with part of the cloud which remains included/understood in the limiting of explosiveness,
  • the cloud meets a source of heat and takes fire,
  • Propagation of the face of flame in the cloud. The gases flarings act a such Piston on fresh gases of the remainder of the cloud and thus a wave of air pressure can occur (see Déflagration).

Terminology

It may be that the propagation of the face of flame is not accompanied by a deflagration, in this case the English term flash fire will be preferred at the end UVCE.
