Vanwall
Vanwall is an old mark of automobile sport, present in Formule 1 of 1954 at 1960. It in particular gained the very first championship of the world of the manufacturers.
History
Vanwall was rested by the British contractor Tony Vanderwell. Initially recipient in the consortium BRM (its Thinwall company manufactures various machine elements), it wearies slownesses of the project quickly and decides to launch out all alone in the automobile sport at the end of the years 1940. After being itself made the hand by preparing Ferrari in " formulate libre" , it makes profitable the new technical payment to launch out in championship of the world of Formula 1 in 1954 with a new car: Vanwall (contraction of Vanderwell and Thinwall).
After two years of grinding where Vanwall are impotent to fight counter the tenors of the championship of the world (Mercedes, Ferrari, Maserati), the cars of Tony Vanderwell carry out their first blows of glare in 1956, via the American pilot Harry Schell. Sufficiently convincing services to attract Stirling Moss, one of the best pilots (if it is not the best) of his generation. After a beginning of mitigated year, Vanwall gains its first success with the GP of Great Britain (victory shared by Tony Brooks and Stirling Moss), then finishes the season in waterspout with two consecutive victories of Italian ground Moss.
For the season 1958, Vanwall can ambitionner legitimately the world titles (in the plural, since the championship of the world of the manufacturers is inaugurated). With three victories for Moss and three victories for Brooks, Vanwall is affirmed indeed this year like the best car of the plate, and the mark takes down the title of the manufacturers. As regards pilot, Moss and Brooks are made nevertheless blow less the bay-trees by Mike Hawthorn, shining but more regular on its Ferrari. But the season of Vanwall is obscured by disappearance at the end of the year third pilot of the stable, Stuart Lewis-Evans, victim of a fatal accident at the time of the last GP of the year in Morocco.
With the general surprise, Tony Vanderwell will announce little time after it withdraws his stable of the automobile sport for health reason. Vanwall will still make episodical appearances in 1959 and 1960 before the activity is not definitively stopped.
