Vanua Levu

Vanua Levu is the second larger island of the Fijian archipelago with a surface of 5587 km ². We find same géo-climatic cutting there as on Viti Levu with 60 kilometers in the north of which it is located, namely a coast with the wet and luxuriant wind, a lee shore drier and an interior mountainous culminating with 1111 meters (Batini Mount). Both principal center urban are Labasa on the west coast where is located an important cane sugar refinery and Savusavu (east coast) which shelters the single airport of the island. The island is populated approximately 50.000 inhabitants and remains still little developed on the tourist level compared with the Western coast of Viti Levu.

The island is divided into three districts which correspond to the three great chefferies of the island: Bua (in the west), Macuata (in the North-East), and Cakaudrove (in South-east).
