The province of Van is one of the 81 Province S (in Turkish: it , in the singular, and iller in the plural) of the Turkey.

Its Turkish prefecture (: valiliği ) is in the éponyme city Van.

Geography

Its surface is of 19.069 km ².

Population

With the census of 2005, the province was populated approximately 988.260 inhabitants, that is to say a Population density of approximately 51 hab. /km ².

Administration

The province is managed by a Turkish prefect (: vali )

Subdivisions

The province is divided into twelve Turkish districts (: ilçe , in the singular): Bahçesaray, Başkale, Çaldıran, Çatak, Edremit, Erciş, Gevaş, Gürpınar, Muradiye, Özalp, Saray and Van.
