Valréas
Valréas (in Occitan Of Provence: Vauriàs according to the traditional standard or Vaurias according to the Norme mistralienne) is a common French, located in the department of Vaucluse and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
Geography
With the three other communes of the canton (Cricket, Richerenches and Visan), Valréas constitutes an enclave of the Département of Vaucluse in that of the Drome and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure in the area the Rhone-Alps (called " wedge of Papes").

Toponymy
Valeriacum, the field of Valère, is only one small village which takes form in the reign of Charlemagne. At the Age of Enlightenment, Valériacum becomes Valérias, then Valrias (Vaurias into of Provence), then translated into Vaulréas or Vauréas to take its current name at the 19th century.
History
In 1317, the pope Jean XXII buys Valréas with Humbert de Montauban and places it under the authority of the States of the Holy See.
In 1562, the city is taken and plundered by the baron of the Adrets and his defenders are massacred.
In 1815 with place a massacre at the Court of the Prisons.
1791, the commune is attached to Drome.
1793, common the joint Vaucluse to its creation.
During the second world war, on June 12th, 1944, 53 resistant is carried out (Wall of shot). Their bodies will be taken along in the vault of the penitent white.
