Valley of Winder

The valley of Winder (in Gascon Inhabitant of Béarn Aspa/will era Vath d' Aspa/will era Tèrra d' Aspa ) is a Vallée the French Pyrenees located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

It is one of the three valleys the Top Béarn with the valleys of Ossau in the east and Barétous in the west. It is stretched along the Gave d' Aspe on nearly 40 km, to the village of Escot until the Col of Somport (1662 m), marking the border with the Vallée of Aragon in Spain. The high valley of Winder shelters part of the National park of the Pyrenees.

This valley still very wild was a long time the refuge of Brown bear S Pyrenean.

It is made up of the 13 following communes, shelling north in the south: Escot, Lourdios-Ichère, Sarrance, Bedous, Osse-in-Winder, Aydius, Accous, Lées-Athas, Lescun, This-Eygun, Etsaut, Borce and Urdos. Beyond Urdos, the valley of Winder opens on the Spanish province of Aragon by Somport. History

At the 19th century, the valley of Winder knew an industrial activity thanks to the built forging mill with Urdos by Frederic d' Abel.
