Valley of Saire
The Val of Saire is a country of Normandy included/understood in the country of Cotentin, in the north-eastern point of the department of the Manche.
It draws its name from the Saire, small Fleuve which takes there its source in the commune of the Mesnil-with-Valley, there follows the whole of its course to its mouth, between Réville and Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue, near the point of Saire and of the island of Tatihou.
It in the beginning important a Archidiaconé of the old diocese of Coutances, surrounded by was archidiaconés of the La Hague (Cherbourg) and of Valognes.
Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue, which did not form part in the beginning of it, is regarded today as the main thing port of the Valley of Saire, with Barfleur.
The other important localities are Saint-Pierre-Church from where was native the Abbé of Saint-Pierre, inventor of a project of universal Paix, and Gatteville famous for its Phare. The political thinker and historian Alexis de Tocqueville wrote the majority of his works in the village of which it bore the name, Tocqueville. Character become tardily celebrates, Gilles de Gouberville, Norman Gentilhomme of the 16th century, of it was also originating and lived there.
A train called " keep silent-vaques" connected to the 20th century century Saint-Vaast-the-Hougue in Cherbourg. It remains of this line of old rehabilitated stations and the viaduct which spans the Valley of the mills with Fermanville.
