Valley monument

Monument Valley is located in the south of the Utah and with the north of the Arizona. The site belongs to a reserve of the Indians Navajo and Plateau of Colorado. The city nearest is Goulding. The geographical coordinates of the site are 36°58.57362 ′ NR 110°5.51604 ′ W. Navajos name the place Tsé Bii' Ndzisgaii , the valley of the rocks. The bright colors of the rock (of the massive sandstone) come from manganese and iron oxide. The hillocks consist of three principal layers:

  • Schist Organ Rock'n'roll in bottom,
  • Sandstone De Chelly in the medium,
  • Moenkopi Schist and silt Shinarump in top.

Geology

The area of Valley Monument belongs to the Plateau of Colorado. The landscape is typical structures aclinales: an eroded plate where do not remain that ridges S pilot. There are the twin rocks called " The Mittens" and also the " Totem Pole" (a finger pointing towards the sky)

Visit

Monument Valley is visited in the car. One saunters in a stony way with his own vehicle, provided that the low-of-case is sufficiently high, or with Amerindian guides. Indeed, this park is with the right in the middle of the reserve Navajo, it are thus them which collect the import duties (not-included in the Step of the US National parks).
