Valley di Fiemme

Val di Fiemme is an Italian valley located in the Dolomites at an about sixty kilometers of Thirty and forty Bolzano (altitude of 1000 m to more than 2300 m). It is a side valley of the valley of the river Adige closing again the average basin of the Avisio. Its skiable vast domain enabled him to organize the competitions of the Championnats of the world of cross-country skiing in 2003 as well as the World cup of ski touring 2006.

History

Its geographical location made it possible the Valley di Fiemme to preserve an independence with respect to the various capacities which followed one another in the Adjacent states.

Roman vestiges dating from I er attests a contact with the ancient Rome.

In 1111, by a document signed by the bishop-prince of Thirty, the valley is recognized autonomous. In 1314, the privilegio Enriciano gives to the inhabitants of Fiemme the direct collective ownership their grounds, forests and pastures and the freedom of their exploitation. As well as possible to organize the exploitation of their ground and especially of the forest, the inhabitants of Fiemme then organize in community the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme which gathers the only inhabitants of the valley: the vicini .

Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme

It is directed according to a system of direct democracy, the vicini of each village elect a regolano which represents its village with the board of directors of the valley. If the great legal lawsuits remain under the direction of the bishop of Thirty, the suits at law and the economic organization of the valley are field of Comunità. This statute perdure until the beginning of 19th century and the Bavarian invasion . In 1807, the old laws are abolished and during one century and half, the inhabitants of the valley, in spite of requests reiterated to preserve their old statute, will have to subject itself to the administrative rules into force. In 1952, the special law for the mountainous regions confirms the unit and the indivisibility of the inheritance of Comunità di Fiemme.

The main resources of the Valley di Fiemme are tourism and the forestry development.

Winter sports resorts

In very a skiable vast domain (the axis Fiemme-Obereggen comprises almost 500 ski-lifts), Val di Fiemme is an important center of winter sports.

Comprising more than 150 km of marked tracks, Val di fiemme is also an important center of ski touring. Each year, Cavalese organizes “Marcia Longa”, a race of ski touring.

City-host of the Championships of the world of cross-country skiing 1991 and 2003.

Forestry development

On its 45  000 hectares, close to 24  000 hectares are covered with forests whose exploitation is managed by Comunità. The forests are mainly made up of spruce S, but one finds there also Sapin, Mélèze and pine. Certain wood have an acoustic quality which make them prefer for the invoice of Violon.

Geological interest

The valley di Fiemme has a geological interest some: one finds trace of an old volcano there, fossils and minerals which took the name of the local toponyms (Monzonite, pedrazzite, Fassaite).
