Valley-in Isere

Valley-in Isere is a common French, located in the Département of Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Located in the the Alps, more precisely in the Massive of Vanoise, in Savoy, Valley-in Isere is regarded as one of the world capitals of the Ski, since its selection for the organization of the Championnats of the world of Alpine skiing 2009. The association of the skiable field of Tignes and of Valley-in Isere, called Space Killy, account 131 tracks representing 300 km; it is not the first field in length but it one of is highest placed and that getting most constant and the best level of Neige.

Places and monuments

The life of the alpine mountain dwellers is marked by a deep religiosity. At the XVIIe century, the popular sacred art adopts extravagances of the Baroque art launched by the popes patrons. The churches decorate plentiful decorations. Showpiece of the unit, the retable is of wood polychrome, gilded with the fine gold, raised twisted columns, monumental saints, angels chubby-checked fellows.

The church baroque of Valley of Isere (XVIIIe century) accommodates holy Bernard of the Alps, owners of the mountain dwellers.

Ski station

With the beginning of the year 1920, the station was in fact only one whole of hamlets. The population was completely made up of the Savoyard farming community. The village is located at the crossroads of three valleys and the pastures surrounding always allowed a breeding of good quality. The Snow then not being seen like a commercial tool, the High population of Tarentaise lived under rather hard conditions. The rural migration did not arrange that and the population started to decrease.

Vis-a-vis the success of the alpine Sport, certain inhabitants mobilized themselves to make station a site able to accommodate sporting events. The skiable field of Valley of Isere interests, because the solid mass of Solaise is admirably exposed (full west), snow is always present (the altitude of the village is the leading cause). The first bucket is built by means of asses and by the force of the arms of the autochtones, it will be one of fastest country, STVI (company of the Téléphérique of Valley of Isere) is created. The STVI " historique" will become later SOFIVAL, a holding, which will allow him its expansion apart from the station, and to manage its companies girls, Montaval for maintenance and the assembly of ski lifts, VALBUS for the network of bus in winter, and the new STVI for the exploitation of the ski lifts of Valley of Isere. Let us note that nowadays SOFIVAL, holding owner of the STVI, became a largely profit group holding the increase of many Ski stations. The STVI is repurchased in 2007 by the company of the Alps.

The road of the Col of Iseran allowed an optimal interconnection ensuring an integration in the department. This comparison of the village facilitated its accessibility and made it possible to stimulate its expansion. The Winter, this road is closed because of snow (it is incorporated even in the skiable field with the tracks called Mattis and Mangard). But as of the summer season it is reopened with circulation and allows the connection with Bonneval-on-Arc. The collar has a great history with the Cyclisme French (for a few years the town hall has more developed the instruction cyclist of the collar, in particular with ticket machines and display panels).

Nowadays, the station is represented by its characters emblematic such Jean-Claude Killy. The village was always a fish pond of athletes and is still today with Matthieu Bozetto or Ingrid Jacquemod, but behind the athletes promoters of the station hide: the families knew to make evolve/move the village, to modernize it to arrive at the current result. To quote only them, Mattis, Bonnevie or Charles Diebold.

Sport

The winter sports resort is the theater of demonstrations periodic and universally known like critérium of the first snow, but of others at the more moving dates and the followers fewer like the 24 hours of Solaise.

Chronology

Winter 1931 - 1932: First Telpher carrier of the station, beginning of the commercial era, open Maurice hotel to allow the lodging of the holiday makers. The school of the French ski (E.S.F.) is born.
Winter 1933-1934: The first goes up slope, Rogoney, is created, two places nondisengageable (replaced in the year 2000).
Winter 1934 - 1935: Creation of the Tourist office.
Winter 1937 - 1938: Creation of the Company of the Cable cars of Valley of Isere (STVI).
February 10th 1970: fatal Avalanche with Valley-in Isere with UCPA.

Une enormous snowslide is detached with 3.206 meters from altitude on the slope from Sassière, the mass of snow crosses the arm of Isere and the trunk road to finish its race on hearth UCPA of Valley of Isere. 39 young people are buried. The center of outdoor counted to year 194 holiday makers at that time. A cement wall armed covered with stone and acting as Paravalanche was built since, the mountain was dug furrows at its top and avalanche barriers metal installés.

Hiver 1991-1992: Organization of tests of ski at the time of the Winter Olympics of 1992 with Albertville.

Winter 2008-2009: Valley-in Isere the Championnats of the world of Alpine skiing 2009 organizes MADE.
