Valley-in Ajol

Valley-with Ajol is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Ajolais.

Geography

The borough occupies the broad valley of the Combeauté, which takes its source in the common neighbor of the Girmont-Valley-with Ajol and which is a tributary of a tributary of the the Saone. In addition to its 3  640 hectares of forest, the vastest commune of the department asserts also 80 localities and hamlets.

History

  • 8th century: arrivals of the first inhabitants, in the middle of forests and of marshes.
  • 1697: final fastening in Lorraine.
  • 1869: autonomy of Girmont-Valley-in Ajol, granted for religious reason (the church of this hamlets distant started to be to build only in 1867).
  • 1896: creation of the Sainte-Marie school.

Curiosities

  • Foire with the Andouille S. the fair is held traditionally each third Monday of February, this date having been fixed by royal decree of Louis-Philippe Ier, in 1831.

  • Aime Duval (the Father Duval ), Jesuit, and singer-type-setter of religious songs, was born with the Valley from Ajol.
  • Dominique Arnould, world champion of cyclo-cross in 1993 (in Corva in Italy), victorious of stage on the Tour de France 1992 in San Sebastian, although born with Luxeuil-the-Baths, is originating in Valley-in Ajol.
