Valley-brilliance
Valley-Brilliance is a municipality in the regional Municipalité of county of Matapédia with the Quebec, located in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent.
Located on southern bank of the lake Matapédia, to 16 km in the North-West of Amqui and to 10 km in the south-east of Sayabec, the municipality is resulting from the fusion which has occurred in 1986 between the village of Valley-Brilliance set up in 1915 and the municipality of Saint-Pierre-of-Lake, created in 1890. Several names capped during the years this corner of country of the valley of Matapédia, populated as from 1872. Before 1883, one speaks about Lake-Matapédia, because of the proximity of this water level, whereas exploration from the area and the construction of the Kempt way begin. He will succeed, Brochu or Lake-with-Brochu in the honor of the first colonist of the Valley, Pierre Brochu (1795-1871), who settles with the head of the Lac Matapédia. This name will remain until 1871, whereas McGowe is essential, drawn from the patronym of the engineer who undertakes work of the section n° 14 of the railroad of the Intercolonial one. From 1876 to 1883, Cedar Hall will become current, according to the hangar in parts of cedar which is used as handing-over for the tools with coal used during railway work.
The creation of the mission of Saint-Pierre-of-Lake in 1883 will relegate to the oubliettes the denomination Cedar Hall, except in the field of the stations. Set up canonically in 1889 and civilly in 1890, the parish of Valley-Brilliance takes again the first name of the abbot Pierre Brillant (1852-1911), missionary at this place of 1881 to 1889 and cleaned of 1889 with its death. Its zeal and its love for the valley of Matapédia were worth to him the nickname of father of the Valley. The municipality of village created in 1915 takes again the parochial denomination.
The Valley-Brillantois live as a majority of agriculture and can be diverted in the center of ski of Valley-in Irene, located at Holy-Irene, distant of hardly 8 km.
