Valle de Willamette
Of the Fabacées is one of plants Dicotylédone S.
The name of this family, Fabaceae , is formed according to the name of kind Faba . However, it is that this name of kind is not used any more, having left room to the kind Vicia . A representative of the old kind Faba (of Latin faba , broad bean) is the Fève, in the past Faba vulgaris , now Vicia faba .
The family is also called usually Légumineuses ( Leguminosae ) or Papilionacées ( Papilionaceae ), but they are not synonymous truths. Each name applies has a particular condition. According to classifications, the composition of this family varies:
-
Fabacées, with the limited direction, is adopted in traditional classification of Cronquist (1981). This group is named Fabaceae ( strictly speaking ) or Papilionaceae . This family includes/understands: 12000 S divided into more than 400 S. (In phylogenetic classification, this group of the plants would be the subfamily Faboideae .)
-
Fabacées, in the broad sense, is adopted in phylogenetic classification APG II (2003). This group is named Fabaceae ( lato sensu ) or Leguminosae . This family includes/understands: 18000 S distributed in three subfamilies. (In traditional Classification, this group of the plants would be the order of the Fabales with three families.).
Les three subfamilies:
Fabacées, in the broad sense, are herbaceous plants, shrubs, trees or lianas. It is a cosmopolitan family of the cold zones to tropical.
The chlorophyllian function is sometimes transferred to the stems.
One normally observes the presence of fixing nodules of the atmospheric Azote on the roots at the Papilionoideae and the Mimosoideae whereas they are absent at the majority of the Caesalpinioideae . These nodosities are the result of a Symbiose between fixing Bactéries of nitrogen, the Rhizobium S, and these various leguminous plant species.
A metabolic characteristic of Fabacées is the presence of a fixing Hémoprotéine of Dioxygène, the Leghémoglobine (or LegHb), very near to the Hémoglobine. This protein is in the nodules of the roots and makes it possible to fix oxygen to form a medium Anaérobie favorable to the development of rhizobium.
Economic importance
It is a family which has a great economic importance, being a source of Protéine S vegetable for the animal or human feeds which do not require nitrate fertilizers. It is also a source of fat contents and wood. One meets there also species which are of an interest as decorative plants.
