Valknut is a Logiciel based on the use of the protocol Direct Connect. It is compatible with other customers Direct Connect, such as Neomodus, DC++ and their derivatives. Valknut is also compatible with the whole of the software used to create Hubs (which plays the part of " here; serveurs").
Valknut, under license GNU LPG, was initially conceived by Mathias Küster. He is written in C++ and its graphical interface (or GUI) uses the library Multiplateforme Qt. Thus, Valknut can be used on different Operating systems such Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows and OS/2 - eComStation.
Initially, Valknut named " DCGUI". Unfortunately, this name was identical to that of another customer Direct Connect for Linux. It was then renamed " dcgui-qt" to avoid any misunderstanding. However, the use of the " Qt" problem posed because it is a registered trademark. Thus the software had to still change once of name, to adopt Valknut.
Following the release of version 0.3.7, Mathias Küster gave up the project. Edward Sheldrake brought the code of the project within the wxDCGUI project, where provided work carries:
- on the addition of new functionalities,
- the bearing of the interface of Qt3 towards Qt4 (and possibly towards wxWidgets).
With the launching of the software, the Splash screen watch an old Germanic symbol (for more details, to see).
