In France, the validation of the assets is a procedure aiming at restoring a certain parity between the assets of traditional teaching and those resulting from parallel or self-educated courses, in particular.
The validation of the assets appeared in 1985 with the VAP which had evil initially to enter manners. It was started again and widened in 2002 with the appearance of the VAE which is added with the first. Testimonys coming from the various areas seem to show today that this procedure is filling its office.
For the companies : recognition of the formative role of the company; means of reducing times and the costs training; certification of the company thanks to the recognition of the qualification of its personnel; tool with the service of the adaptation of competences and the human stock management.
For the private individuals and the employees : means of official recognition of the competences acquired by the track records, personal, associative; helps with the control of the professional path and its evolutions; access facilitated to the diplomas and the resumption of studies; time-saver and of personal and financial investment.
The two procedures have in common that the assets must relate to at least a three years period.
Oldest, founded on the law of July 10th, 1934 (Code of education L 642-9) and governed by a decree of May 16th, 1975, allows to deliver with technicians, justifying five years of professional practice in functions commonly entrusted to engineers, the title of qualified engineer by the State.

Can give place to validation, the assets of the experiment corresponding to the activities paid, nonpaid or voluntary (for example, associative or trade-union), one minimum duration three years. These assets must correspond in whole or part with the competences indexed in the reference frame of certification concerned.
The acquired experiment taken into account, with the title of the validation, are the professional competences acquired in the exercise of a paid, non wage-earning or voluntary activity in direct connection with the contents of the diploma or title. (Decree 2002-615 of April 26th, 2002) One speaks also dacquis expérientiels to indicate the sum of knowledge and the competences acquired by a person outside the education systems and of professional training, generally in the work context or extra-professional activities.
