History

The origin of Valenzano is very known little about and information one has on this subject is dubious. What is certain, it is that the place where the current commune of Valenzano is located was inhabited since highest Antiquité. archaeological excavations made it possible to find tombs going back to fourth century BC.

We do not have any sure source concerning the foundation of the current commune. At the 18th century, the father Bonaventura Da LAMA, in his Cronaca de' Minori Osservanti Riformati beyond provincia di S. Nicolò , chronicle published with Lecce in 1724, affirms that Valenzano was founded in the neighborhoods of the year 845, time to which the Province of Bari was invaded by the Sarrasins. But no document makes it possible to confirm this assertion.
