Valentins

Valentins is a musical group composed of Edith Fambuena and Jean-Louis Piérot, formed in 1985 and separated in 2003.

Beginnings

Since its beginnings in the the Eighties, this brilliance duet is appreciated as much for its own albums than for its work of composition, arrangements and realization for other artists.

Both born in the the Sixties, Edith Fambuena and Jean-Louis Pierot is originating in the area of Aix-en-Provence. Edith is girl of tradesmen and Jean-Louis, wire of teachers. They meet with their adolescence around the same passion, the music, and in particular the Velvet Underground. With Gerald Gardrinier, future De Palmas, they form a trio in 1985, the max Valentine: Edith holds the low one and Jean-Louis the keyboards.

In 1987, Etienne Daho, then into full " Dahomania" , makes a stopover in Aix during a round. It meets the max Valentine at the time of one evening, out of nightclub, where those play. The power is on very quickly, especially with Edith and Jean-Louis. Daho makes sign the max Valentine on his label Satori Song, thus enabling them to record their first 45 turns, the Evils known as and Printemps umbrella . Without success with the key. Moreover, Gerald, in dissension with the musical orientation of the group, leaves and starts a career solo.

Two worlds

The group as a trio thus disappears at the summer 1988… to reappear in 1989, to two, under the name of Valentins. Meanwhile, the destiny of Edith and Jean-Louis bound more and more to the career of Etienne Daho. Edith is guitarist on the album For our Martian lives (1988) for which it composes the title Caribbean Sea . As for Jean-Louis, he works at that time with Daniel Darc, ex- Taxi Girl, and with the English Bill Pritchard.

In 1990 leaves the very first disc the duet, Café of the 2 worlds . Celebrated by criticism, he does not know a great commercial success. Moreover, the career of Valentins will be never very general public. The following year, in addition to their participation (at the sides of Daho) in the original soundtrack of the film Annabelle divided of Francesca Comencini, they launch out in their first great French round.

In 1992, Valentins find the singer of Rennes Co-to produce his album Paris elsewhere , which knows a triumph. And they accompany it on scene throughout the round which follows, in France and abroad. Edith and Jean-Louis also work on the album solo of Nicola Sirkis, singer of the group Indo-China, In the moon .

Elsewhere

The second album of Valentins appears at the summer 1993. This disc éponyme was written partly during the round Paris Ailleurs of Daho. On the small pocket, Valentins are presented to four: Jean-Louis, Edith, the English beater Stephen Irvine and Marcel Paddle, bass player of Daho. Jacno and Christine Lidon also takes part in the album.

In December 1993, the group goes up on the scene of the Bataclan before a French round. But as of 1994, Valentins resume their work for the others. They produce a duet Daho/Dutronc for a disc with the profit of the fight against AIDS whose Daho is the instigator. The following year, they write two titles for Brigitte Fontaine on the album Mankind and also work on False witness of Jacno.

Me Me

A third album leaves in 1997. At that time the group comes very close to rupture, but manages to finish the disc and to save their collaboration. This opus with the evocative title, Ego Ego , conceals rich orchestrations (coppers, cords) for a pop environment always a little sad one. In November and December 1997, Valentins give some concerts, in particular with the New Morning in Paris. This year, it is in fact their collaboration with Alain Bashung on military Fantaisie which will give again confidence to them. This album, a success of the year 1998, confirms the talent of arrangers of Valentins, talent greeted by an eulogistic criticism which reinforces the musical bonds between Edith and Jean-Louis. In 1998, Doriand calls upon them for its album misleading Sommets (which will leave in 1999). Then it is the recording, between London and Paris, of new the Daho, Corps and weapons , without forgetting the Share of the angels of Jacno and the second album of Mercedes Audras. And can beginning 1999, one see Edith Fambuena in film of Stephan Giusti, Why not me?

Having found their insurance, Valentins write more than one ten new titles in a few weeks. They record their new disc at the end of the summer 2000 between Paris, London and New York. Juke Box appears on March 6th 2001. Arrangements of cords are signed Will Malone, known for its collaborations with Massive Attack or The Verve.

The duet is on the scene of the New Casino in Paris October 23rd, 24th and 25th 2001. A French round follows in 2002, and Valentins make the first part of the Irish group The Cranberries.

In 2003, the adventure is finished: the duet separates. Edith and Jean-Louis, each one on her side, continue to collaborate with many artists.
