Valentine Strasser (born in 1967), was president of the Sierra Leone following a coup d'etat, during the civil war.

Biography

President

Captain within the regular army of Sierra Leone, it seizes the power following a coup d'etat the April 29th 1991. He founds with a group of officers the provisional National council of government (NPRC), declares the state of emergency and suspends certain provisions of the Constitution. At 26 years, he is the youngest Head of State of the world.

The December 29th 1991, following an coup attempt of State, it makes carry out 26 soldiers suspected of rebellion.

Following the international pressures, he declares, in October 1993, the organization of elections towards the end 1995.

To face the attacks of the group armed RUF, it calls upon the Gurkha S, of the Asian auxiliaries of the British army, at the company of South-African safety Executive Outcomes, like with the Kamajors, of the local hunters.

The October 2nd 1995, a new coup attempt of State is thwarted whereas it is abroad.

The exile

The January 16th 1996, its vice-president, Julius Maada Bio, organizes a coup d'etat, draws aside it from the capacity and sends it in exile.

It is invited by UNO to make studies of right to the Université of Warwick in the Coventry in England, but it gives up one year later.

It is with unemployment in England starting from 2000.

The return

At the end of the civil war, in 2002, it turns over in Sierra Leone, where it is with unemployment and lives with his mother.
