Valentine , born with Rome, 100e pope from August at September 827.

Biography

Few things are known on Bastien Valentine, a pope who reigned only 40 days according to the Liber pontificalis , or a month according to the Annales of Einhard. It succeeds Eugene II after one long period of holidays of the papal throne. His/her father, certain Leonzio, resides in the district of via Lata , district aristocratic which also gave to the Church the popes Etienne II, Paul I {{er}} and Adrien I {{er}}.

Its ecclesiastical career begins under Pascal I {{er}}, whereas it is 25 years old. Appointed sub-deacon, it quickly becomes Diacre then archdeacon. The Liber pontificalis note as Valentine can speak as well with the Roman people as with the aristocracy. The favor of the young man is confirmed under Eugene II.

With died of this last, he is elected pope unanimously. The news is announced to him whereas it is in prayer with Holy-Marie-Major, and it is escorted until the basilica of Lateran, where it is crowned. Nothing is known of sound short pontificate.
