History
Latin Valeilles : vallicula diminutive of vallis, valleyOne finds mention of the Paroisse of Valeilles at the 13th century among those of the Diocèse of Agen whose bishop perceived the Dîme S. the church, dedicated to Saint Martin, goes back to first half of the 12th century. Ruined with the War One hundred Year old, it was rebuilt and increased with 15th, then devastated again with the XVIe century and repaired at the beginning of 17th. The Vault of the Nave and the Clocher belong to 19th.
Romance church it hardly remains that the semicircular Abside arched in bottom of furnace of which the upper part, arches included/understood, however was remade with the XVIIe century. The Hémicycle is preceded by a right part a little broader. The axial window was walled but it is framed inside a roll ioric prolonged by two posts with which the antiquated Chapiteau is decorated either with foliage or of faced animals.
The Nef was remade at the end of the 15th century on old bases; its vault was re-installed in 1876 in its form first. It is composed of two covered spans of an intersecting ribs, with a shorter span with make rebuilt in 1835. It was flanked after the Guerre One hundred Year old of collateral of blazing Style which includes/understands also two spans and has a ramified vault with decorated multiple keys of vegetable reasons; the repercussion is done on Culot S variously decorated, but the secondary veins are pressed on small arcades in accodance, according to a type of support which one finds elsewhere in Agenais.
On the second span remains a pretty Romance door whose archstones are decorated stars and of palmettes, and the transoms the rinceaux one and daisies.
There was in 1868 a project of enlarging of the church by the construction of a second similar side but it was not carried out. The bell-tower was remade about this time. It was formerly a Tour barlongue as sees some in the area; it is now a modest square tower of two stages crowned of an arrow in Ardoise S.
