Valcarlos
Spanish Valcarlos in or Luzaide in Basque (officially Luzaide-Valcarlos ) is a commune of Navarre in the north of the Spain.

The commune is located in the middle of the Navarrese Pyrenees.

History
The city was called Luzaide (name preserved out of Basque) before taking, at the 12th century, the name of Valcarlos, “valley of Charlemagne. ”Two relay-hospitals are mentioned there as of 1271: the Irauzketa house with the thick walls corresponds to the old hospital Saint Jean d' Irauzketa, close to the current church and Gorosgarai, higher in the rise, pertaining to the monastery of Roncevaux.
Put of Reclusa was an inn for the reception of the pilgrims.
In 1366, it is mentioned a strengthened tower Erredorea which was not to let pass any foreigner, was it pilgrim.
