Valbonnais
Valbonnais is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps. Valbonnais draws its name from the river Bonne of which it constitutes the valley.
The inhabitants of Valbonnais are called the Valbonnetins . The inhabitants of certain hamlets have a particular name (Engelas: Engelaurous, the Rock: Rouchaïrous, Verneys: Vernusaux, Péchal: Pécharaux). Valbonnais draws its name from its principal valley sprinkled by the Good one: Vallis bonnesii , valley of the Bonnesium (Gallo-Roman name).

Personalities related to the commune

Jacques Champollion: born in 1744 with the hamlet of the Rock, father of Jean-François Champollion and Jacques-Joseph Champollion. It left Valbonnais in 1770 to be fixed at Figeac or it Maria in 1773 and worked in the bookstore of his father-in-law, Mr. Gallieu.
