In Were worth, the official languages are French and German. The French-speaking population is majority (62,8%), whereas the German-speaking ones constitute 28,4% of this population.

French is spoken in the districts about Sierre, Sion, Hérens, Conthey, Martigny, Entremont, Saint-Maurice and Monthey. For their part, the German-speaking ones reside in the districts of Goms (france: Conches), Brig (france: Aspires to), Visp (france: Viège), Raron (france: Rarogne) and Leuk (france: Loèche). The German-speaking ones of Were worth speak the high-Valaisan, a Germanic dialect remained very alive, but they write only in standard German.

There are also a few thousands of speakers of the patois of origin francoprovençale (also called Arpitan). One finds this speech particular in the Valley of Hérens and more specifically in the communes of Haudères and of Evolène, in the Valley of Nendaz like those of Savièse and Hérémence.

There exists also another speech community in the valley of Goms (or French Conches, in High-Were worth), Walser. Walser is also a dialectal variety of German spoken in the cantons about Were worth and Tessin like in Italy (autonomous region of the Val of Aoste), but this minority forever have any statute recognized in Were worth, neither in Austria, nor with the Valley of Aoste.
