Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (Chillán, September 28th 1932 - Santiago, September 15th 1973) was a singer, author and popular type-setter Chile in.
Member of the Chilean Communist party, it was one of the principal supports of the Popular Unité and the president Salvador Allende. Its songs criticize the Chilean middle-class ( Las Casitas del Barrio Alto , Neither Chicha Nor Limona ), dispute the Guerre of Vietnam ( El Derecho de Vivir in Paz ), pay homage to the great Latin-American revolutionary figures ( Corrido De Pancho Villa , Camilo Torres , Zamba del Che ), but also to the people and the love (Vientos LED pueblo, Te recuerdo Amanda).
Stopped by the soldiers at the time of the coup d'etat of September 11th, 1973, he is imprisoned and tortured in Estadio Chile (which names today Estadio Víctor Jara) then with the Estadio Nacional with many other victims of the repression which falls down then on Santiago. It written there the poem Estadio de Chile which denounces Fascism and the dictatorship. This poem remained unfinished because Víctor Jara is quickly put at the variation of the other prisoners. He is assassinated on September 15th after having had the broken hands with blow of boot and stick of rifle.
