Vétraz-Monthoux is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Savoie and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Vétraz-Monthoux is located in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the agglomeration of Annemasse, not far from Geneva. History

The first document where is mentioned Monthoux is a charter of 1142 announced by A. of Drilled in Armorial and Nobiliaire of Savoy: “Guillaume 1st, fourth count de Genève, wire of Amédée 1st, already mentioned by his/her father in the charter of Monthoux in 1142”. As from 1245, the list of the lords of Monthoux is known. With this date, the castle belonged to the house of Faucigny; Aimon L of Faucigny is quoted in a bubble of the Pope Innovate lV, gone back to Lyon of the 15 of the calends of September 1245 about the castle and of the vault from Monthoux. The castle of Monthoux changed several times of owners between 1245 and the beginning of XVlèsiècle. Amédée de Viry becomes purchaser of the castle between 1484 and 1504. It passes then to Armand Goyet, in 1505 then is repurchased by Amédée de Viry in 1510, passes to Michel de Viry in 1525. Sold to Antoinette of Saix in 1528, it is repurchased by Michel de Viry in 1532.

By made act with Coppet, with the castle of the said place, on April 22nd, 1532, the lord Michel, baron de Viry and lady Pauline de Vergy, her wife, sell in Noble Michel Guillet, as well on his behalf as of Noble Jehan Guillet, his/her brother, the castle and mandement of Monthoux, with its fidelities, supposed, homages, been useful, sizes, uses, tribes, fruits, gall and direct field, mills, beaters, river and other artifices, pasqueraiges, mountain pastures, rights and actions, and all things pertaining and dependant on the known as castle for the price of 1400 ecus gold and 600 ecus onhowever ruling of repurchase and also the rights to repurchase gave them which are close to Collonges to Noble the Georges and Antoine de Livron. In January - February 1536, the Berneses seize Monthoux (7th seat). They sold the castle to the Baron de Viry but this one did not preserve it a long time; it was obliged, by the Council of Bern, to restore it in Noble Guillet with all it although it had taken to them. May 21st of the same year, the lord of Michel, Baron Viry and Pauline de Vergy, reach in Chambéry an agreement with Nobles Michel and Jehan Guillet. They were appropriate that during two years, it permissible with will be married of Viry to repurchase mandement of Monthoux with the help of the restitution of 2600 ecus gold. This agreement does not prevent a long lawsuit between the two parts before the Parliament of Chambéry.

A peace treaty is signed in Nyon on October 10th, 1589.

The duke leaving in Savoy his natural son, Gift Heart in the capacity as Lieutenant Général, withdraws his troops but at once the Genevese takes again the offensive. January 24th, 1590, the Genevese besieges Monthoux. The garrison primarily made up of peasants did not go and places it could not be taken. March 24th, 1590, the Genevese sends six companies of infantry and two of cavalry with six parts of gun. After having drawn 35 blows, and makes a breach, they entered the place on March 25th at 4 o'clock in the evening. The garrison, is 36 men had passed to the wire of the sword. The castle was emptied and demolished (9th and last head office of Monthoux). The lords of Monthoux thereafter actively and were very honourably interfered with the Dukes Savoy during two centuries. More close to us, after nine generations of possession of Monthoux, the family Guillet de Monthoux will die out with Othon Guillet de Monthoux, born in 1762, died in 1841. In 1975, the Diocese of Annecy yields the goods of Monthoux to the commune of Vétraz-Monthoux.
